Keeping distractions at bay

Effective soundproofing in music recording studios is essential for isolating external noise sources, such as traffic sounds, nearby construction, or any other disturbances that can compromise recording quality. Acoustic barriers such as dense walls, specially modified acoustic doors, and resilient sound isolation clips are commonly employed to prevent noise leakage and ensure a controlled recording environment.

Where acoustics are essential

In addition to isolating external noise, soundproofing also addresses internal acoustics in the recording studio. Using sound-absorbing materials such as acoustic panels, diffusers, and bass traps, we can minimise unwanted reflections, echoes, and reverberations. These acoustic measures create a balanced sound environment, for accurate monitoring and precise sound capture during recordings.

Specific techniques: walls, floors, and ceilings

Soundproofing professional recording studios involves the structural elements of the space. Isolated ‘room within a room’ structures are employed to ensure the highest soundproofing performance is achieved. Floating floors and suspended ceilings with decoupled frames help to prevent vibrations and airborne sound from traveling through the structure. With up to 7 layers including cement particle board, Tecsound and a variety of plasterboards on sound isolation clips, we have a unique design-build-install approach that few competitors can match.

Sealing the sound barrier

Windows and doors are obvious weak points for sound transmission. Installing twin double-glazed acoustic glass windows of different thicknesses or replacing the second pane with secondary acoustic glazing, helps to minimise sound leakage while still allowing natural light into the recording studio. Fire doors with heavy mass, perimeter and drop seals, with low reverb reveals provide additional protection against sound intrusion.

City Insulation installed their ‘Independent Wall plus both upgrades’ system on every adjoining wall to my neighbours and the results have been great! The noise has been reduced by around 80% in the three rooms and I no longer feel the intrusion from next door. I knew nothing about soundproofing before the job was done, and City are not local to where I live so it was a bit of a’ leap of faith’.... Many thanks to the team for installing the soundproofed wall all along the partition wall from one side of the house to other completely sealing off the noise disturbances I had to deal with.The team of three took two days and worked their hats off with exemplary workmanship and showed ingenuity fixing a challenging situation that they’d encountered.They also set up the house with protection prior to starting and cleaned up inside and outside the door where they worked in poor weather conditions.All in all, I will definitely call them again for any issues and I wholeheartedly recommend them. We are all absolutely delighted with City Insulation and the work they have just completed at my brother's house in Liverpool. Sadly my brother is living with alzheimers now and he does have some noisy outbursts now and again, which is natural for this horrible illness. He is being cared for 24/7 in a normal semi-detached house in Liverpool however his neighbours are not normal and keep complaining and putting in complaints to the police / council etc. I found Adam/City Insulation on the internet and he was so understanding and came up with exactly the right solution. Amazing company. I live in an 1890’s house which was converted into two flats in the early 90’s. When I purchased the ground floor flat in 2018 the ceilings had already been considerably dropped in an attempt to reduce noise but in reality, did nothing to prevent the noise coming from upstairs and made the rooms feel quite claustrophobic. Having lived in the property for 4 years the situation was really getting me down and I was seriously contemplating trying to sell but came across City Insulation on Instagram so decided to at least try to solve the problem. Initially approached Adam and Rachel by email and after the first conversation with Adam by telephone, decided to go ahead with what he proposed for the main problem areas, the two front rooms and hall.Having lived with the new soundproofed ceilings for 2 months I can honestly say I no longer hear much from upstairs other than the loudest of noises and have regained so much ceiling height which makes the rooms feel bigger and brighter.Adam and the entire team are so friendly and approachable, they tidied up at the end of each day, were always on time and incredibly hard working; staying late to get the job done. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone having similar issues and will hopefully be having them back soon to do the same for the remaining rooms.

We contacted Adam Turner of City Insulation and spoke to him about needing sound-proofing along the wall of our living and dining rooms which adjoin the property next door. He talked in a very knowledgeable and professional manner and seemed to be a very genuine person.When he came to our home to talk to us he explained everything in great detail. We run a commercial boarding kennels and needed sound absorption fitting to the kennels. Adam was very friendly and professional. We were a bit of a nuisance of a client as there was 2 years between us having the job priced up and completed due to us not City Insulation. I recently used City Insulation to install soundproofing solutions to a bedroom party wall and floor. I thoroughly recommend them.
